A recent report from U-Haul has recognized North Port in Sarasota County as the second-fastest-growing city in the United States. This ranking reflects a notable uptick in inbound moves to the area, making it a vibrant community for new residents.

North Port, which is located in southern Sarasota County, has emerged as a significant player in urban growth. Florida dominated the rankings, with eight of the top ten fastest-growing cities based in the state. Sarasota itself also made the list, boasting the 18th position overall.

According to U-Haul, cities are evaluated based on their net gain of customers renting one-way trucks or containers. In addition to North Port, the cities of Kissimmee and Clermont also appear in the top five for growth in 2024.

- Fort Lauderdale: Recognized among the fastest-growing cities.
- St. Augustine: Another prominent name in Florida’s growth.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce anticipates that by 2030, the state’s population will reach 26 million residents. This surge is indicative of the state’s appeal and the economic opportunities available.
Developments in Sarasota County
In addition to North Port, Sarasota County is home to other expanding communities. Lakewood Ranch, which extends into Manatee County, topped the charts with remarkable home sales in recent data. In 2025, it recorded 2,085 sales, making it the number two growth community in the nation, while Wellen Park followed closely with 992 sales, landing in the eighth spot.

Both communities are set for further expansion with new projects being announced. Lakewood Ranch will introduce a third Esplanade community by 2027, featuring 1,200 new homes and condos.
