City Unveils Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Service Schedule

On January 19, 2026, San Antonio will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Many city services will be directly affected by this observance.
Schedule for Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
City Hall and most municipal offices will remain closed. However, public safety and emergency services are set to continue operations. Here is a breakdown of what residents can expect:
Public Safety and Emergency Services
- Police officers will be on duty.
- Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel will also operate as usual.
General Services Operations
- 3-1-1 Call Center: Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for regular inquiries, and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for urgent animal concerns and traffic issues.
- Animal Care Officers: Available for duty.
- Code Enforcement: Officers will be present for inspections and emergency situations.
- Parking: On-street parking meters will not be enforced, but restrictions apply to off-street City-operated garages and lots.
- Parks and Trails: All City parks and trails will remain open.
Waste Collection and Drop-Off Services
No waste collections will occur on January 19. Regular service schedules will shift as follows:
- Monday collections will occur on Tuesday.
- Tuesday collections will take place on Wednesday.
- Wednesday collections will move to Thursday.
- Thursday collections will be on Friday.
- Friday collections will happen on Saturday.
All waste drop-off centers will resume standard hours starting January 20.
Facilities and Administrative Offices
- Open: Municipal Court magistration services and SAPD detention center.
- Closed: Central Library and all San Antonio Public Library locations.
- Various Administrative Offices: Closed include offices for Solid Waste Management, Economic Development, and more.
Community fitness classes will not take place on the holiday but will resume on January 20. All Metro Health clinics and offices will also be closed.
