Blowing Snow, Icy Roads Force School Closures in Manitoba

Severe winter weather conditions in southern Manitoba have led to numerous school closures. Blowing snow and icy roads have resulted in reduced visibility, prompting officials to cancel classes for several school divisions.
School Closures in Southern Manitoba
On Friday, the following school divisions announced complete closures:
- Border Land
- Fort La Bosse
- Prairie Rose
- Prairie Spirit
- Red River Valley
- Turtle Mountain
Additionally, the Franco-Manitoban School Division has closed several schools, including:
- St-Jean-Baptiste
- Jours de Plaine (Laurier)
- École Aurèle-Lemoine (Saint-Laurent)
- École Saint-Lazare
However, schools such as École Sainte-Agathe and École Réal-Bérard (St-Pierre) remain open, though bus services have been canceled.
Weather Advisories
Environment Canada has issued blowing snow advisories across many southern Manitoba communities. Visibility is expected to drop to near zero at times. Conditions are predicted to improve by Friday evening.
Warnings in Northern Manitoba
In northern regions, cold weather warnings and blowing snow advisories are also in effect. Expected wind chill values range from –45 to –50 degrees Celsius, set to begin Friday afternoon and continue through Monday morning.
Due to the extreme weather, several highway closures have been reported. Travellers are advised to check road conditions and statuses before heading out.
