Mild Weather Brings Heavy Fine Dust, Nation’s Air Stays Hazy Tomorrow

The recent weather patterns in the country have led to mild conditions that are accompanied by heavy fine dust. A significant change in temperatures has been observed, particularly in the southern regions, which recorded their warmest January temperatures on record.
Mild Weather and Rising Dust Levels
As warm southwesterly winds prevail, winter’s chill has diminished. The unseasonably warm weather is comparable to early April temperatures, causing concern amid rising levels of fine particulate matter in the air.
Air Quality Concerns
Air quality across the nation remains poor, especially in certain regions. The fine dust concentration has reached alarming levels, prompting warnings for the following areas:
- High levels of fine dust in the Chungcheong and Honam regions
- Health advisories issued for most parts of western Korea
- Severe fine dust warnings announced nationwide, except for parts of Yeongnam
Tomorrow’s air quality is expected to remain unhealthy. Most parts of the country, except for the eastern coastal areas, will experience very poor air conditions.
Weather Forecast
Starting tomorrow morning, high concentrations of fine dust will trigger emergency reduction measures in Chungcheong and Jeonbuk. The night will bring a slight drop in temperatures due to radiative cooling effects, resulting in dense fog across many regions.
Road conditions may also become hazardous with icy patches forming. Caution is advised for travelers.
Temperature Outlook
Despite the chilly overnight temperatures, which may dip to -1 degrees Celsius in Seoul and Daejeon, daytime highs will be milder. Expected temperatures are:
- Seoul: 6 degrees Celsius
- Gangneung and Daejeon: 12 degrees Celsius
- Mokpo and Ulsan: 1 degree Celsius
- Daegu and Gwangju: 14 degrees Celsius
As we look ahead, snowfall is expected in the central regions early next week, followed by a return to colder temperatures.
Residents are urged to stay informed about weather changes and take necessary precautions against dust and hazardous conditions.
