Andreeva’s Dog Rassy Set for Season Debut in Dubai

Mirra Andreeva, a rising star in women’s tennis, has recently embraced motherhood in a unique way. At only 18 years old, she welcomed a dog named Rassy into her life. This addition came after Andreeva achieved her goal of breaking into the Top 20 of the PIF WTA Rankings in October 2024.

Andreeva’s Emotional Journey as a New Dog Mom

Despite reaching the Top 20, Andreeva had to wait over a year to bring Rassy home. She admitted the separation during her WTA Tour campaign in Australia has been challenging. “It’s pretty stressful,” Andreeva expressed. “I haven’t seen her for two-and-a-half weeks now, since I’ve been in Australia.”

Her family dynamics play a comforting role in Rassy’s life. While Andreeva and her mother are competing in Australia, Rassy is with her father and sister. She shared, “At least she’s with another part of the family. I miss her a lot, and I just wish that she could travel with me to all the tournaments.”

Upcoming Season Debut in Dubai

Andreeva is gearing up for her season debut in the Middle East, particularly in Dubai. She hopes to have Rassy accompany her on future tournaments. This aspiration highlights the importance of family and pets in her life as she balances personal and professional commitments.

The Story Behind Rassy’s Name

  • Andreeva initially considered the name Blair, inspired by a character from Gilmore Girls.
  • After meeting Rassy, she felt that the name didn’t suit her new puppy.
  • Her parents suggested Rassy’s name from a film about a super-intelligent dog. Andreeva agreed to it.

Although training Rassy has been a learning curve, Andreeva is focused on bonding with her. She acquired Rassy when she was just a few months old, which made some training habits a challenge. When asked about adding another dog to the family, she responded cautiously. “We’ll see if I win a Slam or I become No. 1,” she remarked. “But for now, we are just sticking to one puppy, for sure.”

Current Season Performance

As the season progresses, Andreeva has shown promising performance. She has won three out of her first four matches and is preparing to face Maya Joint on Thursday. This match will determine her spot in the Adelaide semifinals, adding more excitement to her already eventful season.
