M60 Closure: Key Details Amid Motorway Flooding

A section of the M60 motorway is currently closed due to flooding, causing significant delays for commuters and travelers. The closure affects the anticlockwise carriageway and extends from junction 17, near Prestwich and Whitefield, to junction 14, which leads to the East Lancashire Road.

M60 Closure Details

The flooding on the M60 was reported between junctions 16 and 15. While a planned overnight closure for roadworks was scheduled, the flooding situation prevented the motorway from reopening as expected at 5 AM.

Cause of the Flooding

According to United Utilities, the flooding is not linked to the scheduled roadworks. It resulted from a burst pipe, which has since been isolated. A clean-up operation is currently in progress, with utilities apologizing for the disruption.

Traffic Impact

  • Long queues have formed up to the closure point.
  • Traffic is also backed up on the westbound side of the M60.
  • Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time.
