Michigan Man’s GoFundMe for ICE Officer Nears $800K After Fatal Shooting

A GoFundMe campaign for an ICE officer involved in a fatal shooting has gained significant traction. The initiative was launched by Clyde Emmons from Mount Forest Township, Michigan.
Campaign Details
Emmons created the fundraiser for ICE officer Jonathan Ross on January 9, aiming to raise $800,000. As of January 14 at 10 a.m., the campaign had already received over $703,500 from nearly 15,000 donations. Notably, some of the largest contributions included:
- Two $10,000 donations
- Two $5,000 donations
Background of the Incident
The impetus for the campaign stems from a controversial incident in Minneapolis. Officer Ross fatally shot Renee Nicole Good after she allegedly attempted to run him down with her vehicle. This incident occurred shortly after she dropped her 6-year-old son off at school.
Video evidence reportedly captures exchanges between Good and the ICE officers before the shooting. As Good attempted to drive away, Officer Ross opened fire at close range, leading to her death.
Support and Justification
Emmons, who declined an interview with El-Balad, expressed his belief that Good’s actions led to the confrontation. He stated, “She shouldn’t have put herself in that situation, and it’s 100 percent her fault.” He further supported Ross’s actions, asserting that the officer had the right to defend himself.
The Trump administration has supported the officer’s decision, categorizing the shooting as an act of self-defense. This endorsement has heightened discussions around the use of lethal force in such encounters.
