Protesters Rally Against ICE at Graduate Hotel, Whipple Federal Building

Protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) intensified in Minnesota, with demonstrators gathering at key locations. On Tuesday night, a crowd amassed outside the Graduate Hotel on the University of Minnesota campus. Their aim was to disrupt ICE agents believed to be residing there.
Details of the Protests
The protesters held signs and made significant noise, using horns, bells, and whistles. This demonstration marked the second large anti-ICE protest at a Hilton-owned hotel within a week. On the preceding Friday, a similar event outside the Canopy Hotel in Minneapolis resulted in 29 detentions.
Background of the Demonstrations
- Demonstration Date: January 13, 2026
- Location: Graduate by Hilton Hotel, University of Minnesota campus
- At least 29 people detained at previous protest
- Three people arrested during the latest protest
University of Minnesota Police responded shortly before midnight to disperse the demonstrators. They cited property damage and hazardous conditions for both the public and law enforcement as reasons for their intervention. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Additional Protests Across Minnesota
Other protests erupted throughout the metro area, including near East St. Paul. Demonstrators also confronted federal agents at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building. Clashes occurred there, following the installation of extra security measures, including concrete barriers.
During these confrontations, federal agents deployed flash bangs to manage the crowd. Updates on arrests and further developments will be provided as more information becomes available.
