Remembering Leon G. “Jack” Evans: A Celebrated Life

Leon G. “Jack” Evans, a beloved member of the Piqua community, has passed away at the age of 72. He died at his home on January 12, 2026, at 4:56 p.m. Born on February 7, 1953, in Urbana, Jack was the son of the late Leon and Elenor Evans.

Family and Personal Life

Jack is survived by his wife, Debra A. Kew, whom he married on September 15, 1972, in Richmond, Indiana. Together, they created a close-knit family. He leaves behind two sons—Jason Evans and Shawn Evans, both from Piqua—and five grandchildren: Madison, Amaya, Christian, Whitney, and Audrey. Jack was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild.

Education and Career

A proud graduate of Piqua Central High School, Jack graduated in 1972. He began his professional journey as a steel mill operator at Miami Industries. He later spent 33 years at Copperweld before retiring. Jack’s dedication to his work was matched by his passion for community involvement.

Sports and Hobbies

In his younger days, Jack enjoyed playing softball and coaching youth sports. His dedication to sports continued into his later years as a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He cherished his bond with friends in “the five & dime club,” with whom he shared season tickets.

Beyond sports, Jack had a variety of interests. He loved playing golf, engaging in card games, and attending music events. His commitment to community was highlighted by his active participation in a local drum circle.

Travel and Adventures

Travel was a significant part of Jack’s life. He and Debra explored numerous destinations, with England being a standout memory. Their journeys across the United States and Europe brought them closer together and created lasting memories.

Memorial Service

A service honoring Jack’s life will take place on January 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, officiated by Larry Hamilton. Friends and family can gather for visitation from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions and Condolences
