Vandals Strike Closed Westminster Mall

The Westminster Mall in California, closed since October 2025, faces severe vandalism and safety issues. Abandoned and neglected, the property attracts trespassers and vandals rather than shoppers.
Vandalism at Westminster Mall
Donny Mohler, a former employee at the Vans store, explored the mall after noticing access through a breach near the food court. Last weekend, he filmed the damage and shared it on TikTok, garnering significant attention.
Extent of Damage
Inside the mall, the destruction was evident. Mohler described it as catastrophic, noting broken glass, debris, and water pooling in various areas. “It’s just very sad, especially seeing the Vans store,” he lamented.
- Widespread destruction throughout the property
- Shattered glass scattered across floors
- Flooding in parts of the building
Police Response
The alarming situation has prompted action from local authorities. Cmdr. Andy Stowers of the Westminster Police Department stated they are enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for trespassing.
“We are increasing signage and barriers to prevent unauthorized entry,” Stowers confirmed. “Right now, our stance is we’re going to arrest you if we catch you inside.”
Recent Activity
Authorities reported a surge in incidents at the mall. Since the latest trespassing issue gained attention, they have responded to 57 service calls and made 30 arrests.
Future of the Mall
The future of Westminster Mall remains uncertain. Some locals express hope for redevelopment into a modern outdoor retail and entertainment space, similar to successful models in nearby Long Beach.
“That kind of concept is really appealing,” said Jack Cunningham from Huntington Beach. However, for now, the mall serves as a nostalgic reminder of better days.
“It’s nostalgia for us,” Mohler added, reminiscing about the bookstore, music store, and movie theater. “It’s a lot of good times, a lot of good memories.”
