Ripon Cathedral Celebrates Farming with Plough Sunday Event

Ripon Cathedral recently hosted the annual Plough Sunday Service, emphasizing the vital role of farming in food production and countryside management. Supported by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, the event took place on January 11, gathering farming families, church leaders, and rural organizations.
The Significance of Plough Sunday
Plough Sunday is an ancient observance, marked on the first Sunday after Epiphany. Traditionally, this day allowed village plows to be blessed in church before farmers began the plowing season on Plough Monday, which follows the Christmas break.

A portion of the collection was allocated to the Addington Fund, which provides housing and disaster relief for farmers across England and Wales. Joe Seels noted the recent challenges faced by farmers but highlighted the unity and support emerging within the agricultural community.
