On January 2, 2023, a tragic sea rescue took place at the central promenade in Withernsea, England. A innocent incident turned into a heartbreaking event when a strong wave pulled a young girl into turbulent waters.
Victims of the Sea Rescue Attempt
During the rescue efforts, 45-year-old Sarah Keeling and 67-year-old Mark Ratcliffe lost their lives. Sarah’s 15-year-old daughter, Grace, remains missing. Emergency services are currently engaged in an extensive search for her.
Details of the Incident
The police received reports of the incident around 3:15 PM. Investigators believe Grace and a friend were standing near the steps by the rocks when a sudden wave swept Grace away.

Emergency Response

Mark Ratcliffe’s family paid tribute with a heartfelt statement. They described him as “a true, selfless hero with a golden heart,” who gave his life in an attempt to save others during this tragic sea rescue.
