Triple Cold Fronts Bring Icy Temperatures

Florida is bracing for a series of three cold fronts over the upcoming week. These fronts will usher in a significant drop in temperatures and bring the possibility of rain.

Cold Front One: Initial Changes

The first cold front is set to arrive today. Although a few light showers are expected, the majority of the region, particularly the Suncoast, will remain dry. Following this front, temperatures will noticeably drop. Morning lows will range from the 40s to the 50s.

Cooler Days Ahead

On Tuesday and Wednesday, cloudy and cool conditions will persist. The second, and strongest, cold front is projected to arrive Wednesday night. This front may bring scattered showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms that will last until Thursday morning.

Temperatures Take a Plunge

By Thursday afternoon, skies will begin to clear. However, Friday morning is anticipated to be quite cold, with temperatures dipping into the 30s and 40s. Highs during both Thursday and Friday will struggle to reach the 60s.

Cold Front Three: Minimal Moisture

Next weekend, the third cold front will move into the Suncoast. This final front is expected to carry little moisture, but it will contribute to the ongoing cooler weather.

Impact on Recreation

  • Sporting activities: Tennis, Pickleball, and Golf courses will be affected by the changing weather.
  • Winds: On Sunday, winds will shift to the North and Northwest, beginning at 5 to 10 mph and increasing to 15 to 20 mph by the afternoon.
  • Rip currents: A high risk of rip currents is expected in the afternoon and into Monday morning.

Boating Advice

Boating conditions are projected to worsen as small craft advisories are put into effect. Northwest winds will start at 5 to 10 knots, but may increase to nearly 20 knots, with possible gusts reaching 25 knots. Choppy conditions are anticipated to persist through Monday, with wave heights of 2 to 4 feet, occasionally hitting 5 feet.

Looking Ahead

As the cold fronts arrive and temperatures drop, residents can expect a cooler week ahead, with another chance of showers mid-week. Preparations for the cold temperatures are advised, especially for outdoor activities.
