Elmore County Storms Leave Thousands Without Power
Elmore County, Alabama, experienced significant storm activity over the weekend. Early Saturday, strong storms moved through the area, leading to power outages and structural damage across the county.
Impact of Storms in Elmore County
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Elmore County as radar indicated rotation. Keith Barnett, director of the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency, confirmed that while rotation was detected, a tornado touchdown has not been confirmed.
Damage Reports
Damage from the storms included:
- Extensive roof damage to a structure on Holtville Road.
- A storage building that was overturned.
- Manufactured homes with skirting blown out.
- Additions of fallen trees on both storage sheds and vehicles.
Deregulated Power and Restoration Efforts
Over 50 trees and power lines were reported down throughout the county. At the peak of the disruption, between 6,000 and 10,000 customers were without electricity. Fortunately, by midday, many homes had their power restored.
Utility crews and county workers spent the morning clearing debris and reestablishing service.
Ongoing Assessments
The Elmore County EMA, along with the National Weather Service, is continuing to assess the damage caused by the storm. So far, there have been no reported injuries from this weather event.
