Manchester United Issues Statement After Bruno Fernandes’ X Account Hacked

Manchester United’s club captain, Bruno Fernandes, recently faced a significant privacy breach when his X account was hacked. The incident resulted in a series of explicit and peculiar posts that raised concerns among fans and followers.
Details of the Hack
The hacking incident began at 11:12 PM, when the hacker first posted, “Join Macclesfield FC. Excited for the future,” a message that referred to the National League North club. This team recently eliminated FA Cup holders Crystal Palace from the tournament.
Escalating Explicit Content
As the hacking continued, the content turned increasingly inappropriate. Posts included sexually explicit comments about notable figures such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Alisha Lehmann, and an adult content creator named Bonnie Blue. Further bizarre assertions included joining the England Cricket team, especially following their 4-1 defeat against Australia in the Ashes.
Notable Posts by the Hacker
- “u my n,” tagging YouTuber KSI.
- “Jake Paul beat AJ but you aren’t ready for that conversation.”
- An invitation for a “1v1” on FIFA to two-time Darts champion Luke Litter.
- “Let’s get rid of INEOS,” referencing the global chemical giant led by billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who bought a 25% stake in Manchester United in 2023.
The hacker also posted a mocking image of the scoreboard from a notorious match where Manchester United lost 7-0 to arch-rivals Liverpool.
Manchester United’s Response
In quick response to the disturbing events, Manchester United released a statement advising supporters, “Bruno Fernandes’s X account has been hacked. Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages.”
Post-Hack Developments
Following the incident, the hacker indicated awareness of the breach by posting, “f* no way, I’ll spread the word. Make sure you guys stay alert for any hacks.” Fortunately, the unauthorized access appears to have been revoked, and all content posted by the hacker has been deleted.
Trends in Hacking of High-Profile Accounts
The incident involving Bruno Fernandes is not isolated. Other prominent footballers have also experienced similar hacks. For example, in 2024, Kylian Mbappe’s X account was taken over, leading to ludicrous messages about Lionel Messi and transfers.
Additionally, former goalkeeper Iker Casillas fell victim to a hack, resulting in a controversial post that attracted significant attention.
As such incidents continue to occur, the need for enhanced security measures for social media accounts, particularly those of public figures, remains crucial.
