Tennessee Football Secures Big 12 Transfer Wide Receiver Commitment

Tennessee football has made headlines by securing the commitment of wide receiver Gavin Freeman, marking a significant addition to their roster. This announcement comes after the Vols previously acquired two defensive players from Penn State on the same day.
Tennessee Football’s New Commitment: Gavin Freeman
Gavin Freeman, who previously played for Oklahoma State, will join Tennessee with one year of eligibility left. The 5-foot-8 wide receiver delivered an impressive performance during his time with the Cowboys. He recorded 53 receptions for 481 yards and four touchdowns, leading his team in both receiving yards and touchdowns.
Freeman’s Early Career
Freeman began his collegiate career at Oklahoma, spending two seasons there before transferring to Oklahoma State. In both institutions, he demonstrated his skills not only as a receiver but also as a valuable kick and punt returner.
Tennessee’s Transfer Portal Activity
Gavin Freeman is the 10th commitment for Tennessee in this transfer portal cycle. Notably, he is only the second offensive player added, following LSU offensive tackle Ory Williams. The focus for the Vols has primarily been on strengthening their defense.
- Chaz Coleman – Edge rusher from Penn State
- Dejuan Lane – Safety from Penn State
- Qua Moss – Safety from Kansas State
- Kayin Lee – Cornerback from Auburn
- Xavier Gilliam – Defensive lineman from Penn State
- Amare Campbell – Linebacker
- Cooper Ranvier – Kicker from Louisville
- Blake Howard – Specialist
Future Outlook for Freeman at Tennessee
While Freeman may face competition for playing time in the slot position with Braylon Staley returning, his versatility and skills may allow him to make a significant impact. He joins a talented receiving corps that includes Mike Matthews, Radarious Jackson, Travis Smith Jr., and TK Keys.
With the addition of Freeman and ongoing efforts to strengthen their team, Tennessee football is poised for an exciting season ahead.
