Nylander Returns for Maple Leafs Against Canucks; McCabe’s Status Uncertain

The Toronto Maple Leafs are receiving a significant boost as they prepare for a back-to-back weekend series. Notably, William Nylander is set to return against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night during Hockey Night in Canada. His participation comes after a six-game absence due to a lower-body injury sustained on December 27.

Player Updates: Nylander and McCabe

Head coach Craig Berube confirmed Nylander’s return after the morning skate. Alongside him, defenseman Jake McCabe will also rejoin the lineup. McCabe missed two games due to a lower-body injury incurred against the New York Islanders on January 3. The 32-year-old player has recorded 16 points this season, including three goals and 13 assists over 41 games.

Lineup Changes for the Maple Leafs

With Nylander’s return, the Maple Leafs have adjusted their forward lines. He will resume his usual position with John Tavares and Matias Maccelli. This update means that Matthew Knies will now skate on the top line with Auston Matthews and Max Domi, while Bobby McMann will join Scott Laughton and Steven Lorentz.

Injury Updates

  • Anthony Stolarz has shown improvement and plans to accompany the team on their upcoming road trip. He has been sidelined since November 11 due to an upper-body injury.
  • For Chris Tanev, the decision regarding a possible surgical procedure following his groin injury on December 28 against the Detroit Red Wings remains pending.

The Maple Leafs’ next challenge will be against the NHL-leading Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. The team is eager to leverage the return of its key players as they strive for success in the upcoming games.
