Dolphins Seek Interview with Chris Shula, Don Shula’s Grandson

The Miami Dolphins are on the hunt for a new head coach, and they are looking to interview one with a familiar last name. Reports indicate that the Dolphins have sought permission to interview Chris Shula, the grandson of the legendary coach Don Shula.
Dolphins Seek Interview with Chris Shula
Chris Shula, 39, has been part of the Los Angeles Rams organization since 2017. He joined as part of head coach Sean McVay’s inaugural staff. He recently ascended to the role of defensive coordinator in 2024, succeeding Raheem Morris.
Legacy of Coaching in the Shula Family
The Shula coaching lineage is significant. Chris’s father, David Shula, became the youngest head coach in Bengals history at 33. His record was less than stellar, finishing with a record of 19 wins and 52 losses over four seasons.
However, the most famous Shula is undoubtedly Don Shula. He holds the record for the most wins in professional football history, with 328 regular-season victories and 347 total wins including playoffs. Don started his coaching career with the Baltimore Colts and led them to Super Bowl III. He became the Dolphins’ head coach in 1970.
Don Shula’s Remarkable Career
- Coached the Miami Dolphins to three consecutive Super Bowls.
- Won Super Bowls VII and VIII.
- Led the 1972 team to a perfect season, finishing 17-0.
Current Status of the Rams
Under Chris Shula’s direction, the Rams have had a challenging defensive season. They ranked 17th in the league, allowing 327.5 yards per game. Nevertheless, they performed better in scoring defense, placing 10th by allowing an average of 20.4 points per game.
Upcoming Challenges
The Rams are gearing up for their playoff run, with a wild-card game against Carolina scheduled for later today. As they aim for postseason success, the potential of Chris Shula joining the Dolphins further stirs the interest of fans and analysts alike.
