Thick Snowfall Expected in Southern Quebec

Significant snowfall is expected in southern Quebec overnight from Saturday to Sunday, leading to accumulations of up to 20 centimeters in various regions. Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for multiple areas, anticipating a precipitation rate of 3 cm per hour during the night.

Snowfall Forecast for Southern Quebec

The storm will blanket the province from the southwest to the northeast. The hardest-hit areas will include:

  • Lanaudière
  • La Mauricie
  • Capitale-Nationale

These regions can expect snowfall amounts between 15 to 20 centimeters. Meanwhile, areas south of the St. Lawrence River should prepare for approximately 10 centimeters of snow.

Impact on Visibility and Travel

During this period, visibility will be significantly reduced, complicating travel until sunrise. According to meteorologist Dominic Martel from Environment Canada, conditions will shift to a mix of rain and snow by midday.

Temperature Changes Ahead

As the snowfall begins to accumulate, some of it is likely to melt by the morning. Daytime temperatures in the Greater Montreal area are expected to reach around 2°C.

In the following days, temperatures will drop again, ending a brief warming trend observed late in the week in southern Quebec. “We will return closer to seasonal averages at the beginning of the week,” notes Martel, although a short warming spell is anticipated on Tuesday.
