Thousands of Irish Passports to Be Reissued

Nearly 13,000 recently issued Irish passports will undergo reissue due to a compliance issue. The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs revealed that 12,904 passports, issued in late December and early January, did not adhere to international travel standards.

Reason for Reissue of Irish Passports

The non-compliance stems from a technical glitch linked to a recent software update. As a result, these passports may encounter problems at eGates and during border control checks.

Department’s Response

The Passport Service, under the Department of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement expressing regret over the situation. They emphasized their commitment to rectifying the issue and apologized to affected travelers for the inconvenience this may cause.

Impact on Travelers

  • Passport holders should be aware of potential delays.
  • Reissued passports aim to meet international travel regulations.
  • Travelers are encouraged to check their passport status proactively.

Those affected will need to initiate the reissue process promptly to avoid travel disruptions. The department is prioritizing these replacements to facilitate smooth travel experiences in the future.
