Utah Commuters Brace for a Swift Snowfall Thursday, Warns Forecaster

Utah commuters are preparing for a swift snowfall expected on Thursday, which could disrupt morning travel. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter weather advisories as frigid air is set to collide with moisture moving into the region.
Snowfall Forecasted for Northern and Central Utah
According to Hayden Mahan, a meteorologist at the NWS Salt Lake City office, the storm will affect mountainous areas and northern valleys significantly. The predicted snowfall totals are:
- Northern Mountain Regions: 6 to 12 inches
- Central and Southern Utah Mountains: 4 to 8 inches
- Northern Utah Valleys: 1 to 4 inches
While the snowfall amounts may not seem extensive, the timing is crucial. A fast burst of snow during the Thursday morning rush hour is expected, which may lead to hazardous driving conditions.
Commuter Concerns and Safety Alerts
Mahan warned that the potential for messy commutes is high, especially for drivers in Northern Utah. Many have not yet adjusted to winter driving conditions this season, as snowfall has been minimal so far. Recently, brief graupel showers caused multiple accidents on Interstate 15, highlighting the need for caution.
This storm could be the last significant snowfall in Utah for over a week, as forecasts indicate clearer weather will follow. Commuters are advised to plan accordingly to ensure safe travel on Thursday morning.
