Remembering Parker A. Behm: Honoring a Remarkable Life

Parker A. Behm, a resident of Troy, Ohio, passed away on January 1, 2026, at the age of 78. He battled Frontotemporal Dementia with grace and dignity. Parker was a remarkable figure in both his personal and professional life, known as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Life and Career

Parker was an innovative entrepreneur who owned a successful real estate company. He built over 100 homes in Miami County. His business interests also included three bowling centers, a trophy and awards business, and a computer store.

One of his most notable achievements was revitalizing downtown Troy. He received awards for his visionary contributions to the community, particularly for converting empty second and third floors of buildings into functional spaces. Noteworthy projects included remodeling the Sherwood Center, showcasing his commitment to urban renewal.

Education and Community Involvement

A graduate of Purdue University, Parker held a degree in engineering. His passion extended beyond business; he actively participated in various nonprofit organizations, including Troy Main Street and the Troy Recreation Board. Parker was a dedicated member of the Troy Noon Optimist Club, emphasizing his belief in improving community life.

His mentoring efforts in local schools highlighted his commitment to youth engagement. In 1994, Parker was recognized as the Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Troy Chamber of Commerce, acknowledging his extensive contributions to the community.

Passions and Hobbies

Parker had a profound love for the arts. He supported local theatrical productions, particularly at the Troy Civic Theatre and the Arbogast Performing Arts Center. His appreciation for the arts was rooted in his belief that they are essential for a vibrant community.

Outside of work and community service, Parker cherished family time, planning trips and creating lasting memories. He enjoyed flying, motorcycles, car races, and games, always eager to learn something new.

Family and Legacy

Parker is survived by his wife, Jane (Hoak) Behm, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. He leaves behind his son, Andrew Behm, and daughter, Heather (Rob) Davey. Parker is also survived by his brother, Tom (Susan) Behm, and several grandchildren, who were integral to his life.

His parents, Harold E. (Kate) Behm and Virginia L. Layman (Clyde) McNew, preceded him in death, along with his brother Scott Behm. Parker’s legacy will be remembered through the lives he touched and the community he transformed.

Memorial Information

Visitation for Parker will take place at Baird Funeral Home in Troy on January 19, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 PM.
