Two Arrested After Fatal New Year’s Day Triple Shooting in Northeast Philadelphia

Authorities have detained two individuals following a tragic triple shooting in Northeast Philadelphia that occurred on New Year’s Day. The incident has left two men dead and another injured.
Details of the Incident
On January 1, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the shooting took place on the 7100 block of Oakland Street. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found 52-year-old Luis Colon with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was declared dead by 11:55 a.m.
Arrests Made
Police have charged two suspects, 44-year-old Cara Williams-Reeves and 21-year-old Tyriq Williams, with murder and various related offenses. The two reportedly went to Colon’s residence to confront his stepdaughter, who was allegedly targeted due to her connection to Williams-Reeves’ family.
Chain of Events
- Williams-Reeves and an unidentified woman assaulted Colon’s stepdaughter and wife on the front lawn.
- Colon intervened, attempting to protect his family.
- During the confrontation, Williams and another man, 21-year-old Quadir Tull, threatened Colon, leading to a shootout.
As the altercation escalated, Colon retrieved his firearm, resulting in a gunfight between him, Williams, and Tull. The suspects eventually fled the scene in a dark-colored Chrysler 300.
Casualties and Ongoing Investigation
After the shooting, the suspects arrived at Temple University Hospital with two additional gunshot victims. Williams was treated for a hand injury and remains in stable condition. However, Tull was not as fortunate, succumbing to his injuries by 11:52 a.m.
Police continue to investigate the incident, aiming to uncover further details regarding the motive and the events leading to the deadly confrontation. As the community reels from this violence, the authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
