Liverpool Negotiates to Sign 17-Year-Old Centre-Back Ifeanyi Ndukwe

Liverpool FC is currently engaged in negotiations to acquire young centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna. This 17-year-old defender, who is yet to celebrate his 18th birthday until March, is seen as a promising addition to the team.
Ifeanyi Ndukwe: Future Talent for Liverpool
The intention is for Ndukwe to join Liverpool ahead of the pre-season training in July. Initially, he would integrate into Rob Page’s under-21 development squad, with aspirations of advancing to the senior team.
Player Profile
- Name: Ifeanyi Ndukwe
- Age: 17 (turning 18 in March)
- Height: 6 ft 5 in
- Current Club: Austria Vienna
- Position: Centre-back
- International Experience: Part of Austria’s U-17 team
Ndukwe has garnered attention from Liverpool’s director of global talent, Matt Newberry. Newberry, who was promoted to his current position over a year ago, has a strong background in recruitment and player pathways at the club.
International Experience
This talented defender made headlines during the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar in November, where Austria reached the final but fell short against Portugal, losing 1-0.
Career Development
Since joining Austria Vienna, Ndukwe has shown significant progression. He captained the Under-16 team and became a regular player for the reserve squad during the 2024-25 season. Last June, he signed a professional contract lasting three years.
Currently, Ndukwe has been part of the first team’s bench this season yet has not yet made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga. Due to regulations established after the UK’s exit from the European Union, Premier League clubs can only sign international players after they reach 18 years of age.
As negotiations progress, Liverpool hopes to finalize the deal, integrating Ndukwe into their developmental plans and potentially boosting their defense with this young prospect.
