Brennan Johnson Joins Crystal Palace from Tottenham in £35m Transfer

Brennan Johnson has officially joined Crystal Palace following a record-breaking £35 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur. This significant move was completed on Friday, just in time for Johnson to be included in the squad for their match against Newcastle on Sunday.

Brennan Johnson’s Transfer Details

The 24-year-old Welsh forward was also a target for Bournemouth, who aimed to replace Manchester City-bound Antoine Semenyo. However, after a conversation with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on Thursday, Johnson chose to make Selhurst Park his new home.

“I’m really excited and I’m really happy,” Johnson expressed about his transfer. “Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I’ve always admired. It’s a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on – I’m super excited.”

Record Transfer Fee

  • Johnson’s transfer eclipsed Crystal Palace’s previous record of £27 million paid for Christian Benteke in 2016.
  • He signed with Tottenham for £47.5 million from Nottingham Forest in 2023, where he had notable success.

Performance at Tottenham

During his time at Tottenham, Johnson enjoyed a successful season, scoring the decisive goal that secured the club’s Europa League title, ending a 17-year trophy drought. Nevertheless, his opportunities for playtime this season under manager Thomas Frank were limited, resulting in four goals across 22 appearances.

Johnson’s signing represents a bold step for Crystal Palace, as they aim to strengthen their attacking options with the addition of a talented forward.
