Montauk Death Investigation Intensifies

The investigation into the mysterious death of Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra at the Montauk Yacht Club continues to intensify. Nearly five months after her passing, Suffolk County police have not yet disclosed an official cause of death, raising further questions surrounding the incident. Nolan-O’Slatarra, aged 33, was found on August 5, shortly after midnight, aboard a boat docked at the yacht club.
Details of the Incident
On the evening of August 4, Nolan-O’Slatarra had a business meeting with Christopher Durnan, the 60-year-old owner of the boat. They met at the Montauk Yacht Club around 7:30 p.m., then spent the evening cruising and discussing business. By 10:30 or 11 p.m., witnesses report that she “suddenly went limp.” Attempts at CPR were made after Durnan called for help, leading to a 911 call just after midnight.
Initial Findings
East Hampton Town police were the first responders, stating that Nolan-O’Slatarra did not show any signs of violence. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy but could not determine a cause of death immediately. Toxicology results are still pending, with family members awaiting information three months later.
Witness Accounts
- Witnesses reported seeing a naked man, identified as Durnan, running down the dock and yelling for help.
- Two individuals who heard the commotion attempted to revive Nolan-O’Slatarra and made the initial emergency call.
Following her death, Nolan-O’Slatarra’s family expressed their shock and grief. Elma Nolan, her mother, stated that they were left in the dark regarding the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. In response, the family commissioned a private autopsy to obtain more clarity.

Continued Investigation
As coverage of the case resurfaced in November, Durnan’s attorney provided new details. Durnan had been an investor in Nolan-O’Slatarra’s business venture and claimed to have had a close relationship with her. However, clarification on the nature of their relationship remains vague.

He emphasized the importance of understanding Durnan’s actions during the critical time after Nolan-O’Slatarra lost consciousness. As the investigation remains active, police have assured that they continue to seek answers.
With the holidays approaching, Nolan-O’Slatarra’s family grapples with their loss and the absence of closure. The community and law enforcement hope for a resolution as they await further findings from the investigative efforts.
