Sheinelle Jones Honors Late Husband as She Joins New ‘Today’ Role

Sheinelle Jones is taking on a new role as the permanent cohost of the fourth hour of ‘Today,’ and she is honoring her late husband throughout this transition.

New Role on ‘Today’

On January 12, Sheinelle will debut her segment titled ‘Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.’ She is joining Jenna Bush Hager to celebrate her new position. This moment comes a year after a particularly challenging time for Jones, who had to pause her career to support her husband, Uche Ojeh, during his battle with glioblastoma.

Reflecting on Loss

During a recent episode of ‘Today with Jenna & Friends,’ Jones shared her emotional journey. “A year ago was tough for me,” she remarked, reflecting on the hardships faced during her husband’s illness. Uche Ojeh passed away in May from an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Jones expressed how her late husband continues to inspire her daily. “It feels divine,” she said. “It feels like Uche’s up there with God, cheering me on.” She acknowledges the significant influence of Uche on her life, stating that he was competitive and always encouraged her to succeed.

Family Support

Jones’s children—Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche Jr., both 13—supported her during this transition. When she shared the news of her new role with them, it filled their home with joy. “They were so happy for me,” she explained.

  • Kayin is 16 years old.
  • Twins Clara and Uche Jr. are 13 years old.

Embracing Joy After Grief

Since returning to ‘Today’ in September, Jones has openly discussed her journey through grief and the importance of finding joy again. She empowers others who may be struggling, saying, “If you see me here, that means you can do it too.”

As she steps into this new chapter, Jones emphasizes the power of resilience and joy in the face of adversity. Her message of hope is clear: Together, we can conquer our challenges.

Looking Ahead

‘Today with Jenna & Sheinelle’ will bring a fresh dynamic to the fourth hour of ‘Today.’ The premiere is highly anticipated, especially since it follows former cohost Hoda Kotb’s decision to take time off for her family. In the past year, over 60 guest cohosts have joined Jenna Bush Hager in this segment, adding to its popularity.

Fans can look forward to what promises to be an inspiring and uplifting show as Jones continues to honor her late husband’s memory while embracing new opportunities at El-Balad.
