Raptors’ Murray-Boyles Sidelined by Illness; Barrett Questionable Against Warriors

Collin Murray-Boyles will not participate in the upcoming match against the Golden State Warriors. This news comes from Blake Murphy of Sportsnet. The 20-year-old has had a promising season, averaging 7.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 26 games.

In his last outing against the Miami Heat, Murray-Boyles achieved his first career double-double. He scored 11 points, secured 12 rebounds, and made three steals, alongside one block. With his absence, the Raptors will need to adjust their game strategy.

RJ Barrett’s Uncertain Status

RJ Barrett’s availability for the game is also in doubt. He was upgraded to questionable status following a right knee sprain sustained on November 23. Two weeks ago, Barrett received a platelet-rich plasma injection and has since been involved in return-to-play activities.

The native of Mississauga, Ontario, had a solid start to the season before his injury. He averaged 19.4 points per game with a career-high 60.4 true shooting percentage, in addition to 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists over 17 games. The Raptors have struggled in his absence, posting a record of 6-9 after an initial strong start of 12-5.

Jakob Poeltl’s Ongoing Injury

Jakob Poeltl is also expected to be sidelined due to lower back stiffness. The 30-year-old center has dealt with this injury all season. He has missed four of the last five games and played only seven minutes in the recent game against the Brooklyn Nets on December 21.

This season, Poeltl is averaging 9.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. His performance has declined compared to last season, which was considered a career year for him. Poeltl signed a three-year, $84 million contract extension in the offseason.

Other Player Updates

  • Seth Curry remains out due to lower back issues.
  • Trayce Jackson-Davis is questionable because of an illness.
  • Brandin Podziemski is probable with a left abdominal contusion.
