Social Security Payments: Who Receives Them This Week on Dec. 24?

In December, Social Security payments are crucial for many beneficiaries. This week, the final batch of payments for the month will be issued on December 24. These distributions come just ahead of a scheduled 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that will take effect in January 2026.

The recent COLA will increase monthly benefits by an average of $56, providing crucial support for recipients. Changes have also been made in how beneficiaries receive their payments, with a shift from paper checks to direct deposits or Direct Express cards.

Who Receives Payments This Week?

  • Beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of their birth month will receive payments on December 24.

Social Security Payment Schedule

Payments are made primarily on Wednesdays. The schedule is determined by the recipient’s birthdate:

  • Birthdates from the 1st to the 10th receive payments on the second Wednesday of the month.
  • Those born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday.
  • Recipients born after the 20th get their payments on the fourth Wednesday.

For individuals who received benefits before May 1997, payments are issued on the third day of the month unless it coincides with a weekend or holiday. Additionally, those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect their Social Security payment on the third day of the month and SSI on the first.
