The City of Buffalo, known as the birthplace of the iconic buffalo wing, recently achieved a remarkable feat. By organizing a large-scale chicken wing eating competition, Buffalo has set a new Guinness World Record.

Last week, 499 participants gathered at the Buffalo Convention Center for the record-breaking event. This crowd surpassed the previous record of 397, which was set by Amazon Web Services in 2018.

Details of the Record-Setting Event

The record was established on December 20 during the Revelas Family Foundation’s annual fundraiser titled “A Not So Silent Night.” This event aims to raise money and awareness for mental health initiatives.

Competition Highlights

The festivities were lively, hosted by Drew Cerza, known as the “Wing King” of Buffalo. Notably, competitive eater George Chiger claimed victory in the contest by consuming 36 wings in only five minutes.

The Anchor Bar, recognized as the original creator of the buffalo wing, contributed to the history of this beloved dish, which combines vinegar, cayenne pepper, and hot sauce, and was introduced in 1964.

This event not only honors Buffalo’s culinary heritage but also serves a greater purpose by supporting mental health awareness.
