The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has recently provided updates regarding the tragic explosion at a nursing home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Bristol Health and Rehab Center, which was formerly known as Silver Lake Nursing Home.
NTSB Investigates Bucks County Nursing Home Explosion
The explosion took place in the kitchen and cafeteria area of the facility, located on the 900 block of Tower Road in Bristol Township. Currently, the NTSB is conducting a thorough investigation into the natural gas service line that connects the nursing home to the street. They are also analyzing the surrounding soil for any potential issues.
Witness Interviews and Ongoing Efforts
- The NTSB is interviewing key individuals including witnesses, first responders, and employees from PECO, the utility company.
- PECO crews were at the facility earlier that day due to reports of a gas odor when the explosion occurred.
- As of now, it remains unclear if PECO’s equipment or the natural gas itself contributed to the blast.
Casualties and Injuries
The explosion claimed the lives of two individuals: Muthoni Nduthu, a 52-year-old employee and resident of Bristol, and an unnamed nursing home resident. Nduthu leaves behind three children aged 18 to 30.
In total, twenty people sustained injuries from the explosion and were transported to various hospitals for treatment. The nursing home, which accommodates 174 beds, was acquired by Saber Healthcare Group mere weeks before the incident.
The NTSB continues its investigation in hopes of shedding light on the causes of this catastrophic event.
