AG’s Office Charges Salem Man with Possessing Explosive Device Materials

In Salem, Massachusetts, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) announced significant developments involving local resident Patrick Gordon, 42. Gordon has been charged with possession of materials for creating incendiary devices and illegal firearms.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Gordon was arraigned in Salem District Court on charges of possessing an incendiary device and an assault weapon. The court set his bail at $100,000, and his next hearing is scheduled for January 20, 2026.

Investigation Details

The investigation began when the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) received a tip on December 15. Authorities discovered that Gordon had ordered large capacity magazines sent to his mother’s residence in Bedford, New Hampshire. Furthermore, he reportedly acquired various firearm-related items and a thermite kit at his Salem apartment.

Search Warrant Execution

On December 22, a search warrant was executed at Gordon’s apartment located on Harbor Street. This search revealed several firearm components that violated Massachusetts gun laws. The authorities found:

  • Parts for commonly used assault rifles
  • A 3D printer allegedly used for manufacturing ghost guns
  • Large quantities of fuels and oxidizers
  • An unknown amount of flash powder, a dangerous pyrotechnic mixture

These materials, whether used separately or together, could potentially create destructive or incendiary devices. Notably, flash powder is illegal to possess due to its volatility and safety risks.

Legal Representation

The prosecution is led by Assistant Attorney General Diana Fantasia. The investigation received crucial support from Chief Jennifer Kirshenbaum of the AGO’s Enterprise and Major Crimes Division, along with assistance from MSP’s Bomb Squad and the Salem Police Department.

It is essential to note that these charges are allegations, and Gordon is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
