Houston Bayous Discover Two More Bodies, Yearly Total Reaches 33

Houston authorities recovered two additional bodies from local bayous, raising the yearly total of bayou-related deaths to 33. This increase is approaching last year’s figure of 35 deaths. The bodies were discovered on a Monday morning around 9:30 a.m., marking the first recovery in over two months.
Details of the Findings
The first body was located in the Buffalo Bayou, near Crawford Street in downtown Houston. A call to 911 by a bystander prompted the Houston Police Department (HPD) dive team to respond. The second body was discovered near Brays Bayou, at Texas Spur 5 and Old Spanish Trail. Notably, this body was found not in the water but on nearby rocks.
Condition of the Bodies
Upon investigation, HPD Sgt. Michael Cass noted that the second body was significantly decomposed. As a result, authorities were unable to determine details such as age or other identifying features. While the HPD has not concluded why this body was so decomposed, it raises questions regarding its location next to the bayou.
Context of Bayou-Related Deaths
This year has attracted increased attention to bayou-related fatalities. In September, a particularly concerning period occurred when six bodies were found within an 11-day span. This series of discoveries led local officials to address public fears about a possible serial killer.
