Chicoutimi Thrives with Major Business Deals

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens have made significant moves during the festive shopping season by acquiring key players to bolster their roster. The team announced the acquisitions of top defensemen Tomas Lavoie and Alexis Bernier, as well as forward Mavrick Lachance.

Key Acquisitions by the Saguenéens

The transaction involving Lavoie was anticipated and had been reported by RDS earlier in December. Lavoie capped off his time with the Cape Breton Eagles by scoring a hat trick and recording four points in his final game. Although this trade has not yet been confirmed by the Saguenéens, it marks an exciting development for the team.

  • Tomas Lavoie:
    • 2022 first overall pick
    • Played three seasons with the Eagles
    • Totaled 25 goals and 116 points over 208 games
    • Currently a prospect for the NHL’s Utah Mammoth

Alexis Bernier’s transfer involved sending 16-year-old forward Léo-Gabriel Gosselin, alongside five draft picks, to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. The Drakkar will receive:

Draft Picks Year
1st Round Pick 2027
2nd Round Pick 2027
4th Round Pick 2027
4th Round Pick 2028
5th Round Pick 2028

Bernier, who recorded 46 points last season, has been sidelined with an injury since March and has not yet played this season.

Details on Mavrick Lachance

Finally, Mavrick Lachance was acquired from the Sherbrooke Phoenix in exchange for a series of draft picks, including:

  • 1st Round Pick (2026)
  • 2nd Round Pick (2028)
  • 3rd Round Pick (2026)
  • 4th Round Pick (2027)

Lachance has had a strong season, netting 10 goals and accumulating 27 points in just 29 games. He previously scored 59 points in 52 games last year.

Saguenéens’ Performance This Season

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens currently lead the QMJHL with an impressive record of 22 wins, 5 losses, and 5 ties across 32 games. This season’s results reflect their strategic acquisitions and commitment to excellence on ice.
