Joe Price III Appointed as Wide Receivers Coach

Joe Price III has been appointed as the new wide receivers coach for the University of Kentucky football team, as announced by head coach Will Stein. Price joins Kentucky after a successful tenure at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), where he spent six seasons, culminating in several key roles.

Joe Price’s Coaching Experience

During his time at UTSA, Price served in multiple significant capacities, including three years as the associate head coach, pass game coordinator, and wide receivers coach. His impact was notable, with the team achieving a 52-26 overall record during his tenure, including two conference championships and six straight bowl appearances.

  • 2023: Added titles of Associate Head Coach and Pass Game Coordinator

The Roadrunners completed the 2023 season with a commendable 9-4 record and secured their first bowl victory over Marshall in the Frisco Bowl, winning 35-17.

Under Price’s guidance, UTSA achieved one of the highest-scoring offensive records in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The team averaged 33.7 points per game, with standout statistics including:

  • In 2024, the offense recorded 5,882 total yards, ranking 12th in the FBS.
  • Scored 431 points across the season, averaging 33.2 points per game.
  • Achieved a record 681 yards in a single game against North Texas.

Price’s wide receivers excelled, including notable performances from Joshua Cephus, who had a record-setting 1,151 receiving yards in 2023.

Coaching Philosophy and Vision

Price expressed excitement about rejoining Stein’s coaching staff, noting their previous collaboration at UTSA. He emphasized the shared vision for developing an explosive offense at Kentucky.

Background and Education

Before his successful run at UTSA, Price had diverse coaching roles. He served as the passing game coordinator at North Shore High School in Texas, contributing to two state championships. He also held various positions in high school football, showcasing his deep-rooted knowledge of the game.

Price, a Houston native, was a standout wide receiver at Harding University. He graduated with a degree in business management and later earned a master’s in educational leadership. His background includes active membership in several football coaching associations.
