Studio Unveils New D&D Game Trailer at Game Awards, Provides Details

Wizards of the Coast showcased a new game titled “Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons” during the 2025 Game Awards. Directed by Stig Asmussen, known for Jedi: Survivor, the game promises to expand the reach of the D&D universe beyond traditional role-playing mechanics.
What Is “Warlock”?
“Warlock” features a protagonist named Kaatri, voiced by Tricia Helfer from Battlestar Galactica. Kaatri is an ex-weapons master who gains supernatural abilities within a dark and mystical setting. The game’s trailer, accompanied by Tool’s “Forty Six & 2,” hints at a gripping storyline filled with intrigue and dangerous monsters, including a creature known as the Death Kiss.
Focus on Gameplay and Story
Invoke Studios, the development team behind “Warlock,” is relatively new but composed of experienced members from the former Tuque Games. With approximately 180 team members, Invoke is focused on delivering a unique gaming experience that emphasizes a single-class narrative, specifically around the warlock character.
- Previous project: Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance
- Game purpose: Focus on specific gameplay and storyline.
- Scheduled Gameplay Reveal: 2026
- Planned Launch: 2027
Why a Warlock?
The choice to center the game around a warlock character stems from the compelling nature of high charisma. These characters can engage with powerful beings, harness magic, and possess an aura that captivates those around them. Kaatri is inspired by dynamic characters like Furiosa from Mad Max and Vanessa Ives from Penny Dreadful, blending strength with an air of mysterious magic.
Innovative Magic Mechanics
“Warlock” aims to redefine spellcasting in action games. Instead of traditional spellcasting represented by mere projectiles, the game encourages players to think creatively. Players will encounter various spells that can solve challenges, traverse the environment, and engage in combat in imaginative ways.
Development and Support
Despite being a part of Wizards of the Coast, Invoke Studios operates autonomously, benefiting from robust internal support. This collaboration ensures an authentic D&D experience while fostering innovative gameplay.
Platform Availability
“Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons” is currently in development for multiple platforms, including:
- PC
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox
The anticipation surrounding “Warlock” reflects a desire to broaden the Dungeons & Dragons narrative, combining rich storytelling with engaging gameplay mechanics. As the team gears up for gameplay reveals and a planned 2027 launch, fans are excited to see how the game evolves.
