USC’s Watkins Focuses on Maximizing ACL Rehab Efforts
USC star guard JuJu Watkins is making strides in her recovery from an ACL tear in her right knee. Recently, she began light workouts, marking progress nine months after her injury sustained during the NCAA Tournament in March.
Maximizing ACL Rehab Efforts
Watkins shared that she has started to engage in individual shooting and ball-handling drills. She emphasized the importance of maximizing every opportunity in her rehab process. “Whatever I can do, I am trying to maximize that,” she stated.
Season Absence for Recovery
In September, Watkins announced she would miss the entire collegiate basketball season to focus completely on her recovery. Although she tried to delay this decision, she acknowledged the reality of her situation. “Getting over that mental curve has been the biggest thing,” she reflected.
Team USA Camp Experience
Currently, Watkins is attending Team USA’s basketball camp in Durham, North Carolina. However, she is not participating directly in practices. Instead, she aims to enhance her basketball IQ and leadership skills during this time.
- Location: Durham, North Carolina
- Focus: Growing basketball IQ and leadership abilities
Watkins expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “It’s enough just being [here] and feeling the energy.” She noted the significance of observing communication and leadership among the players. “It brings up your standards, so I’ll definitely be taking some of these lessons back to USC,” she added.
A Dream Realized
Despite the challenges, Watkins considers her presence at the camp a dream come true. “It’s always been a dream of mine to be in this atmosphere,” she said, highlighting her sense of blessing even as her experience differs from participation.
