Magda Umer, a renowned Polish singer and songwriter, has passed away, as confirmed by her family. Her death marks the end of a significant chapter in the Polish music scene.

Umer began her artistic journey in the late 1960s, performing in student cabarets, including the notable “Stodoła” in Warsaw. In 1969, she gained recognition after a successful performance at the Winter Song Exchange, where her song “Jeśli myślisz, że ja cię nie kocham, to się mylisz” helped her qualify for the “Debiuts” contest at the 7th National Festival of Polish Song in Opole.

She earned an accolade for her rendition of “Jedź na urlop, Romeo” at the festival. Umer continued to build her career with notable victories, including winning the Artistic Festival of Academic Youth with the song “Jestem cała w twoich rękach…”

  • 1970: Victorious at FAMA with “Koncert jesienny na dwa świerszcze i wiatr w kominie…”
  • 1972: Performed “O niebieskim pachnącym groszku” in Opole, although a planned duet was affected by the sudden death of her partner.
  • Co-authored the concert “Polska poezja śpiewana” for the 12th and 13th KFPP in Opole.
  • 1977: Performed “Widzisz, mały” in the concert “Nastroje, nas troje.”
  • 1984: Participated in the Kabareton during the 21st KFPP with “Szpetni czterdziestoletni” and “Kiedy mnie już nie będzie.”

Later Years and Thoughts

In 1997, Umer shifted her focus to the other side of the stage, directing the concert “Zielono mi,” a tribute to Agnieszka Osiecka, at the 34th National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. However, her health deteriorated recently, leading to the cancellation of her scheduled concerts in August and November.

Umer had deep connections with fellow artists and creators. She recently mourned the loss of journalist Katarzyna Stoparczyk, sharing fond memories of their time together. In a poignant Facebook post from September, she expressed a hopeful dream of peace, depicting a serene journey on the yacht “Happy days,” emphasizing her love for life and the air that surrounds it.
