Penn State, Matt Campbell Secure Offensive Coordinator and Key Assistants

Penn State has significantly revamped its coaching staff with the arrival of Matt Campbell, who attracted key personnel from Iowa State. This latest move focuses on enhancing the offensive strategy of the Nittany Lions.
Key Coaching Hires
The newly appointed offensive coordinator for Penn State is Taylor Mouser. He steps into this role after successfully serving in the same position at Iowa State for two seasons.
Mouser has been a vital part of Campbell’s team since their days at Toledo in 2015, holding various roles over the years. Most recently, he guided Iowa State’s offense to impressive rankings, including:
- 2024: 41st in scoring, 39th in yardage, 18th in plays of 20-plus yards
- 2025: 60th in scoring, 63rd in yardage, 63rd in explosive plays
Supporting Staff Members
Joining Mouser are Ryan Clanton and Deon Broomfield. Clanton, who previously served as the offensive line coach, has played a crucial role in improving Iowa State’s rushing attack from 103rd to 51st nationally over three years. His leadership contributed to the development of standout player Jalen Travis, the first offensive lineman from Iowa State to be drafted since 2013.
Broomfield, formerly Iowa State’s safeties coach, now takes on the role of secondary defensive coordinator at Penn State. His experience includes coaching three All-Big 12 safeties in 2024 and holding a previous position with the NFL’s Houston Texans.
Impact on Current Coaching Staff
The hires signal changes for the current coaching staff at Penn State. Offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and offensive line coach Phil Trautwein are expected to depart.
With Broomfield in a new role, there remains uncertainty regarding the future of safeties coach Anthony Poindexter. The complete overhaul includes several other staff members who have joined Campbell, such as:
- Derek Hoodjer – General Manager
- Greg Brabenec – Chief of Staff
- Various strength and conditioning staff
Matt Campbell’s strategic hires are aimed at revitalizing Penn State’s football program as it looks to strengthen its position in college football.
