Masked Gunmen Fire 50 Rounds in Stockton Mass Shooting, Sheriff Reports

In a heartbreaking incident, masked gunmen unleashed over 50 rounds during a mass shooting at a banquet hall in Stockton, California. The attack occurred during a child’s birthday party, resulting in the deaths of three children and an adult. San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow provided details during an update on the investigation.

Victims and Crime Scene

The tragic event, which took place on November 29, left four deceased and 11 others injured. The identified victims include:

  • Maya Lupian, age 8
  • Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero, age 8
  • Amari Peterson, age 14
  • Susano Archuleta, age 21

A wall in the banquet hall was marked with signs of violence, with blood splattered throughout the space. More than five different firearms were reportedly involved, according to Sheriff Withrow.

Investigation Status

Investigators are actively processing evidence, including video footage and over 50 tips from the public. However, Sheriff Withrow cautioned that finding the perpetrators may take weeks or even months. He expressed the necessity for community patience during this challenging time.

Call for Community Assistance

Patrick Peterson, the father of one victim, urged the community to assist law enforcement. Speaking during a news conference alongside Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee, Peterson emphasized the importance of coming forward with any information related to the incident. “If you don’t do the right thing, it’s just going to keep happening,” he asserted.

Vice Mayor Lee echoed this sentiment, stressing the need to apprehend those responsible for the violence.

Potential Gang Involvement

While the exact motive for the shooting remains under investigation, Sheriff Withrow mentioned that known gang members were present at the party. Authorities are also trying to determine the direction from which the gunfire originated and whether any attendees defended themselves during the attack.

Coordination with Federal Agencies

The investigation involves collaboration with various federal agencies, including the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the U.S. Department of Justice. While firearms were found on the roof of the banquet hall, their connection to the shooting has not yet been established.

Witness Descriptions

Descriptive accounts from witnesses indicate that the shooters were dressed in black clothing with face coverings, making identification challenging. Sheriff Withrow mentioned that, despite the masks, investigators might still have leads on the identities of the suspects.
