A shooting incident at Kentucky State University (KSU) has resulted in the death of a student, with another individual in stable but critical condition. The event took place on the university’s campus in Frankfort, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.

Authorities reported that a suspect, who is not affiliated with the university, has been taken into custody. The incident occurred in a residence hall on the south side of the campus.

In response to the shooting, KSU was placed on lockdown as officials responded to what they described as an “active aggressor.” Local law enforcement, along with KSU campus police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, quickly arrived at the scene.

Frankfort Police Assistant Chief Scott Tracy stated that campus police acted swiftly and detained the suspect before other authorities reached the location. The police confirmed that the shooting appears to be isolated and not part of a mass shooting.

Following the incident, KSU cancelled all classes, final exams, and campus activities for the remainder of the week. The university is providing students with the option to return home. KSU President Koffi C. Akakpo described the shooting as a “senseless tragedy,” expressing his condolences and support for affected families.
