Bad Weather Forces Cancellation of Port Orange Holiday Parade

Port Orange officials have announced the cancellation of the annual Holiday Parade due to adverse weather conditions. The parade was expected to take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 7. However, a forecast predicting heavy rain and hazardous conditions led to this decision.
Safety Concerns Lead to Cancellation
“The latest forecast for Sunday indicates a high potential for rain and thunderstorms,” city officials stated on the Port Orange City Hall Facebook page. “These conditions create dangerous visibility and hazardous road issues along the parade route.”
Officials emphasized the importance of public safety. They noted that if the severe weather arrives as predicted, it could pose significant risks for parade participants and attendees. This includes floats, walkers, first responders, and spectators.
Weather Forecast and Risks
The National Weather Service in Melbourne indicates there is a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms for Sunday afternoon. Due to these circumstances, the city has concluded it is impossible to reschedule the parade. The logistics surrounding road closures and other holiday events contribute to this decision.
Upcoming Holiday Events
While the Holiday Parade has been canceled, another festive event is still on schedule. The Port Orange Christmas In the Park will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. This event will occur at the Kenneth W. Parker Amphitheater, located at 2001 City Center Circle.
