Storm Bram is set to impact the UK and nearby regions, bringing significant weather challenges. The storm has prompted severe weather alerts due to heavy rain and strong winds.

Severe Weather Alerts from Storm Bram

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain affecting much of Wales and south-west England. This warning is in effect from 18:00 GMT on Monday to 18:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Expected Rainfall and Risk of Flooding

  • Anticipated rainfall ranges from 20-40mm (0.8-1.6 inches) across various regions.
  • Higher elevations, particularly Dartmoor and parts of Wales, may see accumulations up to 80mm (3.2 inches).
  • A small chance exists for up to 100mm (3.9 inches) on more exposed hills.
  • Localized flooding is a concern due to saturated ground conditions from previous rains.

Additionally, another yellow weather warning encompasses north-west England, valid from midnight to 15:00 GMT on Tuesday. Rainfall up to 80mm (3.2 inches) is expected over the Cumbrian hills, raising further flood risks.

Continuing Weather Risks

As the main area of rain progresses to the north-east on Tuesday, other regions, especially Scotland, may continue to experience rain and strong winds into Wednesday.

Storm Naming Overview

The recent storm cycle in the UK has included Storm Benjamin and Storm Claudia, named by France and Spain respectively. To date, the UK Met Office has only officially recognized one storm, named Storm Amy.

Following the pattern of storm naming, Storm Bram is part of the UK, Ireland, and Netherlands list. If conditions warrant another naming, the next storm will be called Chandra.
