Zeke Andrews Shines Against Valor Christian
A pivotal moment for Andrews occurred during a non-conference game against Valor Christian on September 26. With the Mustangs positioned on the six-yard line, Andrews made a remarkable play. He avoided a linebacker blitz and powered through defenders, scoring a touchdown. This play showcased his determination and skill, setting the tone for Ralston Valley’s season.
Resilience Through Challenges
The Mustangs, who remain undefeated at 13-0, have overcome significant challenges this season. Early on, junior running back Colton Stratman suffered a season-ending injury in their first game against Erie. Additionally, Andrews was sidelined due to a kidney injury during a matchup with Columbine, missing two games.
- Week 1: Colton Stratman injured
- Week 6: Zeke Andrews suffered a kidney injury
- Recent Semifinals: Ralston Valley faced a first-quarter deficit but rallied to win against Mountain Vista.
Leadership and Team Spirit
Andrews’s leadership has been a crucial element in the Mustangs’ success. Teammate Levi Rillos remarked on how Andrews keeps morale high and directs the team effectively. His dual-threat capability as both a quarterback and a runner has made him a pivotal player this season.
A Record-Setting Season
Andrews’s stats reflect his impressive contributions. He has thrown for 2,618 yards, scored 25 touchdowns, and rushed for 749 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. His performance has drawn attention from rival coaches, including Cherry Creek’s Dave Logan, who recognizes Andrews as a significant threat.
Looking Ahead to the Championship
As the team prepares for the championship, Andrews remains focused. His commitment was initially to Colorado State; however, he recently de-committed, prompting him to explore other collegiate opportunities. Despite this, his current focus is leading Ralston Valley to victory against the powerhouse Cherry Creek.
With its motto of “keep punching,” the Mustangs aim to push past their previous hurdles and achieve a historic win. Ralston Valley is eager to prove themselves and solidify their identity during the game on Saturday.
