CBC British Columbia recently celebrated its annual fundraising event, Make The Season Kind, raising an impressive total of $1.52 million for Food Banks B.C. The event took place on a Friday, with activities hosted across the province to engage the community and encourage donations.
Event Highlights and Fundraising Efforts
The campaign allows individuals to contribute through various methods. Donations can be made online at cbc.ca/kindbc, via text by sending KIND to 20222, or by calling a toll-free number. As of 9:30 p.m. PT on the event day, donations reached $1,529,494.21.
Since its inception in 1986, Make The Season Kind has amassed over $24 million in total contributions. In the previous year, the community raised $2,410,283.14. This year, events were hosted at the CBC Outdoor Plaza in Vancouver, featuring live performances from local artists, including a special food truck event.
Community Involvement and Challenges
Many CBC personalities participated in live broadcasts throughout the day, celebrating local talent and community spirit. The evening concluded with Kindness Karaoke, where participants showcased their singing skills judged by professionals.

Growing Need for Food Bank Support
The need for food assistance in British Columbia is at an all-time high. More than 100,000 residents accessed food bank services in just one month. Since 2019, visits to food banks have surged by nearly 80 percent, with nearly one-third of those using these services being children.
According to Food Banks B.C., approximately 24 percent of British Columbians are currently facing food insecurity, a significant portion of whom hold full-time jobs. The organization highlights the urgent need for broader systemic solutions to address hunger and food access in the community.
Dan Huang-Taylor, executive director of Food Banks B.C., emphasized the responsibility of society as a whole in tackling these critical issues. He expressed hope for collaborative efforts toward a future where no one in British Columbia goes hungry.
