Car Strikes Food Truck in Guadeloupe, Injuring 19 Including 7 Children

A serious incident occurred in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe, on the evening of December 5, involving a car colliding with a food truck. This accident left 19 people injured, including seven children.
Details of the Collision
The collision took place at approximately 7:45 PM local time. The group of pedestrians was purchasing food from the food truck when they were struck by the vehicle, located about 20 meters from the town square, where Christmas illuminations had recently been launched.
Injuries and Emergency Responses
- Nineteen pedestrians were injured, with seven being children.
- Initially, three individuals, including a 10-year-old boy, were reported in critical condition.
- All victims were later declared in stable condition.
The local authorities reported that more than 40 firefighters, seven emergency vehicles, and numerous gendarmes were deployed to assist. A crisis management unit was activated, and a NOVI plan, which is designed for situations with multiple victims, was implemented.
Driver’s Condition and Legal Actions
The driver, a 45-year-old man, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and cannabis at the time of the accident. Following the incident, he faced a severe reaction from the crowd and was reportedly extracted from the scene to ensure his safety.
A medical-psychological emergency unit is scheduled to be activated in Sainte-Anne to support those affected by this tragic event.
