Réseau Express Métropolitain Service Halted Between Côte-de-Liesse and Central Station

The Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM) service is temporarily suspended in both directions on Friday between Côte-de-Liesse station and Central Station due to a technical issue. The interruption began early in the morning and is expected to impact travelers throughout the day.

Service Interruption Details

Trains ceased operations at 6:19 AM and remained halted until 8:50 AM, affecting routes between Bois-Franc and Central Station. As of 8:44 AM, REM officials confirmed that the issue arose from the signaling system. They stated that, due to the automated nature of the trains, service cannot resume until the problem is resolved.

Alternate Arrangements for Travelers

Passengers traveling south past Côte-de-Liesse are advised to disembark at Bois-Franc and transfer to a shuttle bus. This arrangement allows them to continue their journey despite the disruptions.

Weather Impact

Although there is speculation regarding the influence of the severe cold weather—temperatures plummeting to -17 degrees Celsius—REM officials have not confirmed a direct connection between the weather and the technical difficulties.

Additional Service Stops

Earlier that day, at around 5:36 AM, a service interruption was reported on a shorter section of the line, specifically between Du Ruisseau and Édouard-Montpetit stations. The REM team is actively investigating the issues to determine their root cause and implement a timely resolution before the morning rush.

  • Service Interruption: Between Côte-de-Liesse and Gare Centrale.
  • Initial Halt: 6:19 AM – 8:50 AM.
  • Temperature: -17 degrees Celsius on the morning of the disruptions.

Passengers are encouraged to stay updated with the latest information from the REM to navigate their travel plans effectively during this downtime.
