“MND Claims 14-Year-Old Kyle, Affects All Ages”

Former Leeds Rhinos rugby player Kevin Sinfield recently met the family of 14-year-old Kyle at Gorseinon Rugby Club in Swansea. This meeting occurred on his latest fundraising effort aimed at raising awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Sinfield is undertaking this challenge in memory of his friend and teammate Rob Burrow, who sadly passed away from MND in June 2022.

MND Awareness Through Fundraising

Sinfield launched the “7 in 7: Together” challenge on December 1, starting in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. His ambitious plan includes completing seven ultramarathons across the UK and Ireland. This challenge will conclude in Leeds on Sunday.

Details of the Challenge

Throughout this endeavor, Sinfield is committed to running at least 45 kilometers (approximately 27.9 miles) each day. He tackles this distance in seven-kilometer segments, which equals about 4.3 miles. The third ultramarathon took place in South Wales, where several supporters joined him along the route in Swansea.

  • Start Date: December 1, 2023
  • Location of Start: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
  • Total Distance per Day: 45 kilometers (27.9 miles)
  • Daily Running Segments: 7 kilometers (4.3 miles)
  • Goal Fundraising Amount: £777,777

During his time in Swansea, Sinfield expressed his determination to expedite his pace: “We’ll run a bit faster and harder this leg,” he reassured Kyle’s family. He aims to raise £777,777, symbolizing the number seven shirt worn by Burrow.

Impact of the Fundraising Efforts

Since 2020, Sinfield has successfully raised over £10 million for MND research and support. His charity work aims to improve the lives of those affected by this debilitating disease.

Kevin Sinfield’s dedication inspires many as he carries on the legacy of Rob Burrow and advocates for MND awareness. His challenges not only raise crucial funds but also highlight the importance of community support in combating this disease.
