San Antonio Marathon Highlights Local Communities, Boosts Storefronts

San Antonio is gearing up for its first-ever marathon, with events set to take place this weekend. The marathon weekend features three races: a 5K, a half-marathon, and a full marathon, expecting a total of 18,000 participants.
Highlights of the San Antonio Marathon
This year’s marathon showcases a new course designed to highlight local communities and support small businesses. According to Jenny Carnes, President and CEO of San Antonio Sports, the route aims to promote the city. “We wanted to put an emphasis on our own community,” Carnes explained during a recent news conference.
Course and Community Engagement
Participants will pass through several vibrant neighborhoods, including:
- King William
- Monte Vista
- Olmos Park
- Alamo Heights
- Pearl
Small businesses located along this route are eager for the influx of visitors. Michael Pfeiffer, co-owner of Bubbles & Bourbon, expressed optimism about the marathon’s impact: “It’s really exciting. It’s going to be great for the downtown area and the Pearl area.”
Race Registration and Participation Growth
The excitement surrounding the marathon is reflected in the registration numbers. All three races are sold out, indicating a strong interest in the events. Carnes noted a significant increase in participants, revealing that this year’s marathon has more than double the number of runners compared to last year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.
This inaugural event not only promotes health and fitness but also aims to strengthen community ties and support local storefronts. As the marathon weekend approaches, San Antonio anticipates a vibrant celebration of its culture and businesses.
