National Theatre Live Announces 2026 Screenings Featuring Coughlan, Turner, Mirren

National Theatre Live has unveiled its 2026 cinema lineup, which highlights four significant productions. This includes the return of renowned plays such as “The Audience,” “The Playboy of the Western World,” and “Les Liaisons Dangereuses.”

Highlights of the Productions
Each production offers a unique narrative and stellar performances from acclaimed actors.
- The Audience features Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II. It explores the private meetings between the Queen and her prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to David Cameron.
- The Playboy of the Western World stars Nicola Coughlan, Éanna Hardwicke, and Siobhán McSweeney. Directed by Caitriona McLaughlin, the play follows the unexpected events that unfold when Christy Mahon claims to have killed his father.
- Les Liaisons Dangereuses features Lesley Manville, Aidan Turner, and Monica Barbaro. It dives into the tumultuous relationship between the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont.
Production Details
The Audience was successfully recorded during its original run in the West End and is returning due to its popularity as one of the top NT Live broadcasts. Directed by Stephen Daldry and presented by Playful Productions, the play was captured live in 2013.
On the other hand, Les Liaisons Dangereuses marks a significant return to the National Theatre, having been absent for nine years. Directed by Marianne Elliott, this adaptation is accompanied by a stellar cast and will be filmed during its run in the Lyttelton Theatre.
